Give your cable company a call, tell them what you are thinking about doing. In most cases, they will match what Direct is offering. I cancelled cable a few years ago and now have dish, play the game between the two and you will likely get good deals. I have Dish now and have Embarq DSL for my high speed internet. An example is Dish wanted me to pay $75 installation fee for my HD service, I told them Direct was offering it to me for fee, I got it fee from Dish, If you have been a long time customer, they will do alot to keep your business.

Good Luck

Thanks lewisd & Impulsive Spender! I think I will make that DirectTV call this afternoon, and celebrate getting the service by having a McDonald's Sundae. ;)

I have had DirectTV for three years. I highly recommend it as long as you can survive service interruptions during severe weather. The thing I love most is the menu. You can look for something days in advance and don't have to deal with a scrolling menu that makes you wait until it reaches the channel you are looking for and then only shows upcoming shows for about the next 90 minutes. Plus, the menu screen has picture-in-picture so you can still watch whatever you are already tuned to while searching. And...you receive the NFL Network!

Hello HDTV Guy...*You have the right idea...cutting out stuff thats a luxury and not a need. ...ofcourse, we have to have a little fun to keep our sanity...for example... I dont need a banana split...that cost 4 bucks...but maybe I do need a $1 Sundae from MCDonalds to cool off on a hot day.
Keep on Saving...Good luck. . dgl
