Keep saving for that trip. Eventually, you will save enough money to see your son and granddaughter and you won’t have any emergencies to pay for. Looking at the bright side, at least the money you are saving is going to cover emergency situations and you don’t have to try to pay for these with credit cards.
Family is important…so, this is a good reason to save. In this day and time, I’m sure it’s not easy. *Every penny, coupon, Yard sale, etc counts….
Not sure how you are planning to travel…however, you may want to check into train travel…not sure where you are but train traveling here in NC is dirt cheap compared to driving/or flying. Best of luck to you and your family.

Thanks for all the advice. I will still try to save every month. My son lives in Denver, CO so the train might take longer than I would have in vacation days but thanks for the idea I will check into it.
