As I continue to save for a High Def TV for me (remember my wife has taken over the television we bought earlier this year so she can watch American Idol, The Biggest Loser, Dancing with the Stars, Trading Spaces, and a bunch of other shows I really don’t care to watch) I have come to realize how much money one can save just by using coupons and buying things on sale.
I will admit I am a bit of a tightwad. Some people even think I have the first dollar I ever earned, which is not quite true. But I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t take advantage of coupons and sales. I do all my virtually all of my grocery shopping at MCU sponsor company Harris-Teeter. The store is close to where I live and is directly on my way home from work so I stop in frequently. But one day a week, usually Sunday afternoon, I grab all my coupons, study the Harris Teeter circular and devise a plan to save some serious money. HT, like most grocery chains, will double coupons up to 99 cents. So, math wizard that I am, I try to use my coupons that are more than 50 cents yet less than a dollar. By doubling a 75 cent coupon I save a buck fifty, much better than a dollar off coupon. See, I told you I was cheap. One of my greatest shopping coups is when I buy something on sale and I have a coupon so I end up getting the item for free. Absolutely makes my day!
My point is (yes, I actually have one) is that you can save a ton of money by clipping coupons out of the paper and buying things when they are on sale. If you are going to buy an item anyway why not use a coupon and get a discount? I plan to start putting the money I save at HT using coupons and my customer reward card into my WAYSF account. It will be my reward to myself for being thrifty and I will be able to reach my savings goal that much quicker.

This blog asks a simple question: "What are you saving for?" Its goal is to help people set savings goals, develop a disciplined and/or systematic savings habit, and build a corresponding community of like-minded people as a support network. By laughing, crying, and discussing how we each approach this topic together, we should find it much easier to save together. So what are you saving for?
I am glad I am not alone. :O I am the same way. I try to save as much as I can. but rather than looking at it as a Dollar amount, I try to look at it as a %. example. if you have a grocery item that cost $2.00. and say I have a coupon for .50 cents.. I look at it like I just saved 25%.
My wife hates going showing with me because sometimes I bust out the cell phone calculator to see if we should buy in bulk or smaller quantity. I use to do that when we had to buy diapers to find out how much it cost per diaper.
Sometimes they put the unit cost in there as well so that is very helpful at times. And lord help us if we need to make a major purchase. It takes me about a month to decide on something.
