For the past several decades, Americans have forgotten the importance of saving money. With credit card companies extending far more/larger unsecured credit lines than consumers have the capacity to repay, many of us have become victims of our senseless need for instant gratification. See something you want? Don’t have the money to pay for it? Big whup! I’ll just charge it.

Subsequently, our citizens have fallen deeper and deeper in debt. Consider the following facts according to Bankrate.com:

  • 1.6 million (1 in every 73) U.S. households filed for bankruptcy in 2003
  • There are 1.2 billion credit cards in use in the U.S.
  • A typical credit card purchase ends up costing 112 percent more than if cash were used
  • Average credit card debt among all American households is $8,400
  • A typical American family pays nearly $1,200/year in credit card interest

It’s time to change the trend! Our theory is simple: build a community of like-minded people who understand the importance of saving money to support one another as we set and pursue medium to long range savings goal. We ask a simple question: “What are you saving for?” You fill in the blank.

Maybe you want to vacation in Hawaii? Perhaps you want to pay off your credit card? Possibly that 50″ plasma television at the big box store caught your eye?  Tell us specifically what you are saving for, and upload a picture of it if you have one.  Tell us how much it will cost, how much you will put aside a month to acheive the goal, and tips that you may have that will help us follow your lead. This site isn’t about keeping you from buying what you want - it’s about finding a way to maximize the amount of benefit you get from your money.
